We Deserve Safe, Secure Affordable Housing

A housing initiative by and for the Solid State community.

1 & 2 Bedroom Opportunities Targeting for 2026

Our GOAL

Solid State’s Affordable Housing Society (SSAHS) is a new initiative dedicated to facilitating housing solutions for racialized migrant communities in Surrey and the immediate region.

Current Opportunity

SSAHS is working energetically to secure units for our community starting in 2026. Through our initial partnerships, the units we expect to offer first are:

1 and 2-bedroom units.

While no promises can be made yet, these avenues look promising for individuals, couples, and smaller families looking to move next year.

  • Targeting rents that are manageable for our community members.

  • Prioritizing access to transit in North Surrey and New Westminster.

  • Residents will have access to SSAHS tenant support, including help navigating systems and understanding tenant rights.

Our Future: Multi-Generational Living

  • We are actively advocating for 3, 4, and even 5-bedroom units to support multi-generational families.

  • Our culture values hospitality. We are designing for spaces that allow you to host friends and relatives, whether through larger living rooms, communal dining halls, or bookable guest suites.

  • We are aiming for housing costs that target 30% of gross household income

  • We are prioritizing locations close to transit and community hubs, specifically in North Surrey (Whalley/Guildford) and New Westminster.

Based on deep community research and inspired by the Halal Housing Solutions Lab, we have established core criteria for every project we pursue. We aren't just looking for "units"; we are looking for homes.

We know that 1-2 bedrooms isn't enough for everyone. Our long-term goal is to design and build Family-Sized Units (3, 4, and 5 bedrooms) that support multi-generational living and the "ability to host" friends and relatives.

How We Will Build This

Solid State’s Affordable Housing Society (SSAHS) is a non-profit initiative dedicated to facilitating housing solutions for racialized migrant communities. We are initially delivering these homes through a Partnership Model, working with established developers to handle construction while we focus on the people.

Our Role:

Tenant Support: Removing barriers through education and wrap-around support.

Advocacy: Using data to fight for the design features our families actually need.

Get Involved

Whether you fit into a 1-bedroom unit now or need a 5-bedroom unit later, we need you to fill out this survey.

  1. For Now (2026): If you are interested in the 1-2 bedroom units coming this fall , we need to know who you are so we can keep you updated.

  2. For the Future: If you need a larger family home, tell us your story. We need this research to demonstrate the demand for multi-generational units in our future developments.

We need to know:

  • Your Budget: What is realistically affordable for you?

  • Your Household: Do you need space for elders, children, or extended family?

  • Your Timeline: Are you looking for 2026, or further out?
